New migrants sought from London and Leeds
Manawatu may soon get an influx of skilled migrants from Old Blighty. Vision Manawatu and the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce are hosting a stand at the “Opportunities New Zealand” expos in both London and Leeds in April to promote the Manawatu region to skilled migrants.
Manawatu firms have been quick to support the initiative financially. Over 20 firms in the region have pledged financial support, even though some of them have no need to directly recruit at the expo. Vision Manawatu Chief Executive Andrew Powrie said, “I have had some companies put in $500 just to show their support for the initiative. I think that’s absolutely great, and shows the commitment of local firms to well being of the region.”
Mr Powrie will be joined on the stand by Kevin Monk from the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce, and there will also be a representative from the Higgins Group and from Manawatu Business Park.
The Expos attract over 10,000 people, who have already decided they want to live in New Zealand. Mr Powrie said, “On the one hand this is a chance to attract people to positions in the region that need to be filled; and on the other it is a great chance to profile the region and our quality of life.”
For businesses wanting to find out more about the Expo and overseas recruitment, Vision Manawatu and Immigration NZ are co-hosting a half day seminar next Thursday 14 February at the Novotel from 2.30pm. To register for this, contact Vision Manawatu 350 1830.
