Trades Mentor inspiring secondary school students
Jacqui Phillips role as Trades Mentor is to inspire students at secondary schools, and through youth organisations, to consider techonolgy and trades career paths. Raising awareness of the trades, linking businesses up with apprentices, informing young people of the options available to them, Jacqui’s role is multifaceted.
Jacqui says, “there are a number of trades that people are already aware of, and which people usually think of when considering apprenticeships. I want to build awareness of some of the lesser known trades, and really increase the options available to young people in the region.”
As Trades Mentor, Jacqui organises industry days where groups of 10 students experience trades of their choice, and to talk to those people involved in the trade, with opportunities for gateway placements and she can facilitate recruitment for local industry.
