Manawatu Woman in Business

DSC02557.JPGAn early morning start did not put off the 44 women who met on Friday 23rd April for the Woman in Business Breakfast meeting hosted at Vision Manawatu.  Elaine Reilly (CEO, Vision Manawatu) welcomed the group that included both existing business women and those new to business looking to network and for inspiration.

Shannon based Suzie Johnson from Oosh entertained and captivated with her enlightening experience of starting a business from very little and through hard-work, tenacity, family support and quite of lot of humour has succeeded in building her business and expanding it further to include new outlets within Shannon and developing new product lines. Suzie really is inspirational to listen to.

Woman in Business 2The second speaker Barbara Briant, Co-ordinator of the Palmerston North Her Business Network was equally inspirational and explained the benefits of membership.  Members gain confidence and learn new skills by networking and building relationships. Overcome isolation and meet positive role models, share ideas and trade with other professional business women, are supported by and support other businesswomen and have the opportunity to refer business to other businesswomen.

A healthy breakfast from Fresh Central was welcome during the informal meeting and networking and the sharing of ideas and initiatives was amongst some of the outcomes amongst the women who attended.

Twenty Manawatu women (plus one honorary) met in Palmerston North yesterday to discuss ways to enhance which female participation in entrepreneurship. Hosted by Vision Manawatu, Massey University and the Bio Commerce Centre, the group included existing and potential entrepreneurs together with development agencies.

Keynote speakers included Jane Richardson, founder of An Extra Pair of Hands, and Elaine Reilly, CEO of economic development agency Vision Manawatu.

Outcomes included a sharing of useful experiences, identification of some initiatives that would support greater participation by women in start-up businesses and ways in which Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 might serve as a platform for further growth. “This event afforded a mix of businesswomen and aspiring business owners to learn first- hand about the experiences of starting a new business from scratch. A powerful and inspiring session” said Ms Reilly
