Role
To facilitate a coordinated approach to education in Manawatu, Vision Manawatu formed an Integrated Education Guardian Group in 2003. This group consists of representatives from the four major tertiary education providers in Manawatu, plus complementary service providers and key stakeholders.
The Guardian Group is a high level steering group, which provides guidance and direction to Vision Manawatu in the implementation of the education portion of the Manawatu’s Economic Development Strategy.
The Guardian group also coordinates and facilitates projects involving mutual benefit to tertiary education providers in Manawatu. Examples are projects under TEC’s recent eLearning Collaborative Development Fund (eCDF), and Innovation and Development Fund (IDF).
The Integrated Education Guardian Group looks forward to many further collaborative projects to advance the development of Palmerston North as New Zealand’s leading Student City.
Major Goals
Key aspects of the Guardian Group's work include:
- Linkages and co-ordination between educational institutions
- Integration between the business sector and the education sector
- Determining and meeting needs of local skill gaps through education and training
- Shaping and influencing central government policy affecting education (lobbying);
- Achieving a high level of recognition for the Manawatu.
