James Lockhart (Chair)

Dr James C Lockhart is the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Executive Education) at Massey University's College of Business.  James holds a PhD in International Business from The University of Auckland and a Masterate in Agricultural Science (Hons) from Massey University.  He is an atypical academic, being responsible for spanning The College's academic practitioner divide by working with the business community.  His research interests lie in strategy and governance and he has developed research methodology to explore decision making failure at board level i.e. governance failures.  James has extensive business consulting and managerial experience, holds three professional directorships and farms with his family north of Feilding.


Mark Cleaver

Mark Cleaver was raised in Taranaki then completed a Bachelor of Agriculture and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies at Massey University.  Mark was formerly Chief Operating Officer – Commercialisation at Landcare Research in Palmerston North and responsible for developing commercial opportunities from Landcare Research’s research and development activities. His current role is Director, Research Management Services at Massey University, a role that includes oversight of the research contracting and commercialisation activities for Massey.

Mark is also a founding shareholder in Aero Sports Protection Ltd, a Palmerston North based business producing cricket protective equipment.

Ben Vanderkolk

Ben Vanderkolk has been Crown Solicitor for Palmerston North since 1987 and is extensively involved in community organisations.  He is Chairman of the Manfeild Trust Board.

Dean Tilyard

Dean Tilyard is a former Vision Manawatu staff member (Associate Director, Bio-industry).  He is Chief Executive of the Bio Commerce Centre in Palmerston North, a business incubator.

Charlie Pedersen

Charlie Pedersen was the National President of Federated Farmers and has extensive experience in lobbying and advocacy.  Although a farmer, Charlie has a background in education and the teaching of children with special needs.

Charlie and Chrissy have been married for 33 years and have four adult children, all now involved in the family farming business. They have retired and protected large areas of vegetation on their farms, and have a strong interest in protecting significant landscapes for future generations.

Charlie has held elected positions in many local organisations in the Manawatu.  He has strong interests in improving safety on and about New Zealand farms, and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Farmsafe New Zealand.  As well as the business of pastoral farming, Charlie has commercial and forestry interests, and he was the founder chairman of a company that grew to be the largest privately owned agricultural consultancy in New Zealand.

Charlie represents the interests of his rural community as a board member of Vision Manawatu and the Arohanui Hospice and is a Justice of the Peace and a Rotarian.
