Who are we?
Vision Manawatu is responsible for promoting economic growth in the Manawatu region. Our strength and success are derived from our determination to build partnerships between the agency and the business community and focusing on the Manawatu's Economic Development Strategy. This strategy identifies five priority areas for growth – Smart Business, Integrated Education, Bio-industry, City Vibrancy and Infrastructure.
Our Principal Funders are Palmerston North City Council, Manawatu District Council, Massey University and Powerco.
History of Vision Manawatu
Vision Manawatu, established as a Charitable Trust, represents a unique model of partnership between private sector and public sector interests in business and economic development.
The model was based on a review of international best practice, which focused on similar strategies overseas, in particular the Priority One initiative in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Formed in 1999, the Vision Manawatu Trust incorporates the previous Knowledge Centre, an independent Promotion Trust, the Manawatu Chamber of Commerce, the economic development activities of the respective local authorities and the local Business Development Board.
