Trade Connections

Trade Connections inspires people under 25 to consider training and employment in the trades and applied technology sectors.

It's a service raising awareness of lesser-known trades, informing young people of their options and linking local businesses with eager apprentices.

There are over 130 recognised trade and technology qualifications in New Zealand, but few are well known to people seeking trade careers. By working in partnership with industry, Vision Manawatu aims to increase young people's awareness of trade opportunities to the benefit of local employers.

Through industry days and the annual Manawatu Careers Expo, Trade Connections enables employers to engage with secondary students as they learn about and experience trades of their choice. Trade Connections facilitates local gateway placements and can even help with recruitment.

There are many ways Trade Connections can assist in targeting young people and promoting your business. Manawatu Careers Expo

In response to demand, the popular annual Trades Expo has expanded to become the Manawatu Careers Expo. No longer just trades, this two-day expo provides opportunities to showcase a wide range of training and career options to young people and their families.

Exhibitors hail from throughout the Manawatu, Rangitikei, Horowhenua and Tararua regions, with consideration given to organisations offering training and skills not offered by local employers or education providers. Massey University, UCOL, industry training organisations, armed forces, police, private training organisations, IPC and Te Wānanga o Aotearoa were just a few of the many exhibitors in 2011.

Held on a Sunday and Monday, the first day of the Expo is open to the public and entry is free of charge. Monday provides an opportunity for school groups and education providers to attend. Throughout the two days, visitors participate in activities ranging from competitions and quizzes to workshops and seminars.

Exhibitors are encouraged to make the most of opportunities to engage with visitors, and assistance is available should your organisation wish to deliver a workshop or activity.

Don't miss your chance to speak directly to young people in our region at a time when they are considering future options. Trade Graduation

Trade Graduation celebrates the success of people within the Manawatu, Rangitikei and Tararua regions who have completed industry training qualifications over the past 12 months. It's an opportunity for newly qualified trades people and their employers to come together with friends, family and colleagues for a fun evening of drinks and nibbles, and reflect upon what they've achieved.

This invitation-only event is free to attend and acknowledges people who have completed qualifications or apprenticeships across a wide spectrum of trade and technology skills. All graduates will be presented with a certificate of achievement, and businesses that support the training of employees will also receive recognition.

The Mayoral Award for Outstanding Achievement will be presented to one exceptional graduate, and Rotary scholarships will be awarded to promising trades trainees.

If you receive an invitation, we strongly encourage you to come along. This is a one off invitation in recognition of what you have achieved. Why not make the most of it?
