Young Enterprise Scheme
Innovative programmes and resources developed by the Young Enterprise Trust (formerly Enterprise New Zealand Trust) inspire, educate and transform students into budding entrepreneurs through hands-on enterprise exercises.
Starting at primary school and continuing right through secondary education, Young Enterprise Trust programmes encourage students to take ownership, use initiative and develop financial literacy that will set them up for life.
Vision Manawatu works closely with the Trust and local businesses to facilitate programmes like the Young Enterprise Scheme, which assist in cultivating our region's enterprising culture.
Say YES to Enterprise!
The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) is a yearlong experiential business programme for year 12/13 students. Under this innovative scheme, teams of students have the opportunity to put theory into practice by creating their own businesses, developing real products or services and making a real profit or loss.
Assisted by a teacher, the regional YES coordinator, and a business mentor, students experience all the challenges and triumphs associated with business ownership.
Teams work to:
- Gain initial capital;
- Develop a formal business plan;
- Pitch their business to a panel of YES Dragon's Den judges;
- Hold a product launch;
- Participate in a trade fair;
- Complete an annual report;
- Compete for regional and national prizes;
- And have a whole heap of fun along the way.
Over 50,000 students have participated in the scheme since its inception, and some YES businesses are so successful they continue long after the programme ends.
Get Involved
Manawatu is the birthplace of YES. We've been championing student entrepreneurs since the scheme first launched in Palmerston North in 1981, because the students of today are the business leaders of tomorrow.
Show your support by getting involved in the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme. There are several ways to contribute. You could join the Student Supporters Club, become a YES Mentor, be a Dragon in the YES Dragon's Den, sponsor a prize at the annual YES prize giving, or secure YES naming rights for the region.

YES - Regional Trade Fair
As part of the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme (YES), student directors have the opportunity to promote and sell their products and services to the general public during an annual Regional Trade Fair in The Plaza.
The Fair also provides a chance for students to make contact with businesses and professionals, negotiate sales and receive tips on selling techniques.
It's an event that brings students' creativity to the fore, with the added incentive of Regional Awards.
